Retail stores

Sierra Trading Post operates brick-and-mortar outlet stores in Cheyenne, Wyo., (where the company is headquartered and runs its warehouse), Cody, Wyoming, Meridian, Idaho.[2] (near Boise), as well as in Reno, Nevada. The company was originally headquartered in Reno, Nevada.

In October 2010, Sierra Trading Post launched its mobile site and opened its beta website to public scrutiny by inviting comments from Facebook fans and reporting its findings and solutions on the Sierra Blogging Post. The next generation of its Web presence will go live in early 2011, but shoppers are invited to experience the new Sierra Trading Post site and leave feedback on Facebook.

Catalogs

The first Sierra Trading Post catalog had 16 pages of hand-drawn merchandise printed in two colors. Today, the company mails nine catalog titles with hundreds of items in each catalog, represented in full-color digital photography. The company’s catalog line has expanded to include specialty titles, as well as the original "core" catalog. All catalogs are mailed several times per year.

History

Sierra Trading Post was founded in Reno, Nevada in 1986 by Keith Richardson and his wife Bobbi. The original location had 500 square feet (46 m2) of office space. The current locations have over 500,000 square feet (50,000 m2) of operating space. The business’ claims to hold to three guiding principles that are aimed at giving optimal customer service, maintaining low operating costs to keep customer savings higher, and keeping the company's business ethics consistent with the owners' Christian faith.[3] On January 12, 2009 Sierra Trading Post laid off approximately 130 employees at the retail and outlet store and fulfillment center in Cheyenne, a first in the company's 25-year history.[4]
